What We Collect

When you use VNYL, we may collect anonymous usage and diagnostic information, and a record of purchases you make. Both are described below.

We do not collect the music you play. Titles, artists, and albums are not collected by us, we do not build a listening history, and we have no access to your Apple Music or Spotify accounts or credentials.

Music Information

VNYL reads “now playing” information from your music apps so it can draw the spinning record in your dock. This information is used on your device and is not sent to us.

To display album artwork and related details, VNYL may request them from your music service or other third-party sources. Those requests may include information identifying the current track, and the providers receiving them may log them in accordance with their own privacy policies. They are not sent to us and are not recorded in our analytics.

Usage and Diagnostics

VNYL may collect anonymous usage and diagnostic information so we can understand how the app is used and where it falls short. This is on by default. You can turn it off at any time in Settings → General → “Share anonymous usage data”.

This may include which features you use and how you set the app up, purchase and upgrade activity, whether connecting to a music service or granting permissions succeeded, errors the app encounters, aggregate counts of activity, and technical details such as your app version, operating system version, and an approximate region derived from your IP address.

It does not include anything about the music itself. Aggregate counts may reflect how much you use VNYL. They never reflect what you listen to.

This information is associated with a randomly generated identifier created for analytics purposes. It is processed on our behalf by third-party analytics providers.

Purchases

Purchases are handled by Apple. We may use third-party providers to verify a purchase and restore it across your devices. We never receive your payment details.

Analytics and Performance

We may use analytics and performance tools to understand how visitors use this site — for example page views, referrers, approximate location, and performance measurements. We do not show personalized content or ads, we do not profile you across other sites, and we do not sell your data.

Some of these tools operate without cookies and run whenever you visit. Others, such as Google Analytics, load only if you accept the relevant category in our cookie banner, and may be disabled by us entirely.

Cookies and Consent

Where a cookie banner is shown, your choice is stored locally in your browser rather than on our servers. You can change it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser. Tools that set no cookies do not require your consent and are not covered by the banner.

Email Sign-Up

If you sign up for early access, we collect your email address solely to tell you when VNYL launches. It is held by our email provider, acting on our behalf, and added to a mailing list you can unsubscribe from at any time. We will not share it with anyone else or use it for any other purpose.

Where Information Is Processed

We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process information there or in other countries. Where information is transferred out of the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, we rely on appropriate safeguards for that transfer, such as standard contractual clauses.

Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or object to our use of your personal information, and to withdraw consent you have previously given.

The quickest routes are built in: turn off “Share anonymous usage data” in VNYL’s settings to stop app analytics, and clear this site’s data in your browser to reset your cookie choice.

Where we rely on a legal basis to process your information, that basis is your consent for cookies and marketing email, and our legitimate interest in maintaining and improving VNYL for everything else described here.

How Long We Keep Information

We keep information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy, or for as long as the law requires.

Children

VNYL is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
